How to decide on the size I should order

Taking your measurements: This is extremely important if you want your gown to fit properly.  Please do not guess your gown size or any one else's gown size in your bridal party.  This will only lead to disappointment. Also please take your measurements over very minimual clothing.  You will need your Bust, True Waist (not where your pants ride but where your waist dents in when you bend to the side), and Hip Measurement (usually down from your waist about 7-9” going around the fullest part of your buttocks and thigh).  You might also consider taking measurements for any part of your body that you feel could potentionally have a problem, like your sleeve length (should you have extra long arms), shoulder span (for wide shoulders), or upper arm (if you think your arm is larger than normal).  If you are taller than 5’10” you might also consider taking your hollow to hem measurement so that you can see if you will need to have your dress made with extra length.  (The hollow is the indention at the base of the front of your neck and the hem would be where you want your dress to be when you have your shoes on.) You'll need a cloth tape measure, a piece of string, paper and pencil or pen and a mirror for best results.

       Measure your bust. Take this measurement wearing your everyday bra. Facing the mirror, wrap the tape measure around your  back and bring forward to the fullest part of your bust. Check the mirror to make sure you've got a straight line. Now write that number down as bust with everyday bra.  Don't squish yourself and remember to take this measurement again if you plan on wearing a different type of bra.

       Find your natural waist.  Your natural waistline is easy to find using a string. Tie the string so it's snug but comfortable around your waist. Now bend to each side. The string will move to your natural waistline. Check the mirror. This time the line may not be straight and that's fine. Pick up your tape and measure over the string exactly where it is. Make sure not to hold your breath or pull the tape too tight.  Write this down as your natural waist.

       Measure your hip.  What you want here is the absolute fullest part of your low hip. Stand with your feet together. Check yourself both front and side in the mirror to make sure you've got your fullest hip and that the tape measure is straight. Call this low hip and write your number down.

Need help?  If you do not have anyone who can help you in the taking of your measurements contact an Alterations Shop (listed in the yellow pages) they are usually happy to assist you.  If your measurements are not taken accurately the size of your dress can be wrong

Size charts.  When you have your accurate measurements then consult the size chart that can be found with the information about the gown you are interested in ordering.  Do not be alarmed if your size is 1 to 2 sizes larger than your normal dress size.  Wedding Gowns and Evening wear typically run small because they run on Bridal industry standards and not ready to wear standards!  Most of the time you will have to order the dress size that is closest to your largest measurement.  This can sometimes be a little tricky and because we understand this we are more than happy to assist you at any time with the sizing of your gown.  However, please remember the size you order needs to be the size that your measurements match closest to NOW not after you loose that extra 10 lbs!  If you would like help with this you may call us or email us your measurements and tell us the style you are interested in ordering then we can advise you on the size we feel will best fit you.  This will save you a lot of grief and inconvenience in the long run because you won’t have to be running to the post office to return a gown for another size.  Remember “WHEN IN DOUBT CALL”! 

Your dress arrives.  But something is not fitting just right.  Do not be alarmed!  Gowns are not made to your exact measurements but to standard size charts thus very few Wedding Gowns and Eveningwear gowns can ever be worn without alterations.  No two individuals have exactly the same body shape and because this is such a special event you will want your gown to have the perfect fit.  If you live close enough to our Bridal Salon we will be happy to assist you with the alterations that need to be done.  Please call us for a fitting appointment with our seamstress. However, if you do not live close by, you will need to find a competent bridal gown seamstress to fine tune your gown.  Please keep in mind most gowns will need to be hemmed, taken in or let out, and sometimes taken up in the shoulders.  Most Bridal Gowns can be taken in up to 2 sizes and let out up to 2 sizes.  Eveningwear items are slightly different and do not have as much play in them as the Bridal Gown does.  We again would be happy to assist you with any concerns you might have regarding the fit.  Please make sure your seamstress has Bridal Gown experience and then get references before you give her your dress to alter.  If you need extra fabric or lace for changes we will be happy to order it for you when you place your gown order.  The charge for this will be dependant on the type and amount of fabric you will need.  Please contact us directly to order your gown if you will need fabric.  In this way we will be able to make sure that they are ordered together.
